Employee Retention Campaign Package Kitting

Challenge

America’s leading integrated power company, NRG Energy operates 140 electric generating plants, maintains a presence in all 50 states, and employees over 8,500 full-time workers to serve its more than three million retail customers.

As part of an initiative intended to enhance teamwork, empower workers and encourage them to think creatively, the company sought to roll-out a new campaign enterprise wide. They planned to send kits with NRG-branded tote bags, dry-erase markers, dry-erase decals, dry-erase boards and sets of instructions to workers at the company’s sites from coast to coast. With the kits, recipients could make the most of their participation in the fun and engaging group activities centered on a “Power To” theme.

Of course, assembling the many components into packages and delivering them in the correct quantities to scores of facilities on a strict timeline posed a considerable challenge…

Solution

Given a complete list of NRG’s many facilities and their respective head counts, Alliance Global Graphics assumed responsibility for pick-and-pack kitting for nearly 10,000 packages. Ensuring that each location received an accurate number of kits for their employees, it’s a kitting process by which we picked the individual components of the order from multiple master cartons and packed them into boxes addressed to specific recipients. Distributing specially labeled and assembled packages for campaign facilitators at each site was also integral to the initiative.

The kitting and distribution was accomplished smoothly, on schedule and within budget. With the effort, we were proud to contribute to the success of NRG’s “Power To” employee-retention campaign, which demonstrated to workers that their ideas were highly valued and their teamwork was well appreciated.
